Why Did God Allow That to Happen?”
In any time of suffering and affliction, people often ask, "Why did God do this?"  We won't find any easy answers to that question.  A better question to ask is this, "How can God use this to His glory and honor?"  In the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, we look to God for strength and comfort!

Is She ‘Allowed in Your Church?
God’s mercy and grace are revealed to those who deserve anything but. A marginalized Samaritan woman didn’t receive compassion from her community and didn’t deserve it from our Savior Jesus Christ, yet she was given and shown mercy and grace and came to believe He is the Savior of the world. We, too, have gone astray and deserve much less than mercy and grace from God Himself. Yet, while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

    The Wounds of Murder
We remember that the wounds of murder and violence we committed against our Lord were laid on Christ on the cross. Our Lenten observance reminds us that though we have been brought low by sin, our Lord will bless us with new life in him through the cross.

    Abraham’s Hope Is Our Hope
Abraham is a great example of faith. As we often pray for faith and good courage to the Lord who has called us “to ventures of which we cannot see the ending, by paths as yet untrodden, through perils unknown,” Abraham lived with this courage. From Haran to Canaan, Abraham was led by the hand of God toward the unfolding future God had prepared in the incarnation of His only-begotten Son to be our Savior and Redeemer. During Lent we join with Abraham of old and all the saints in trusting the Lord through the unknown tomorrows to the outcome and end we do know in Christ—everlasting life.

    Facing Temptation
Today is the First Sunday in Lent as we make our annual journey with Christ to the cross. Though the Sundays in Lent are not technically part of this somber season, they do reflect the same penitential theme that characterizes our forty days of prayerful devotion and repentance. Today we watch as Jesus faces the slick lies of the tempter. He does not face them on His own but in the strength and power of God’s Word and truth. We who live by faith in Christ are also made strong in the Word of the Lord before the devil’s lies and temptations.

    Lessons from the Mountaintop
Today we consider the Transfiguration of our Lord Jesus. The sight on the Mount of Transfiguration is glorious—but for us and for our salvation, Jesus saw beyond the glory of His transfiguration on the mountain to the glory of the cross, where He would complete God’s saving work on our behalf. As we sing our hymns of praise, we find our reason for glory in God’s grace-filled action for us.

    A Heart of Love
Valentine’s Day is a time for expressing our love for others. Many have sent cards, flowers, or chocolates to that someone special in their lives. Our love for others, though, is not a perfect love. Sometimes our thoughts and actions are self-serving and sinful. God loves us with a perfect, unconditional love. He demonstrated His love for all mankind by sending Jesus to be our Savior from sin. Today we remember that God loves each of us in Christ and that we are called to love one another as He has first loved us.
