The Heat Is On!
In speaking of the message of the Reformation, Martin Luther stated: “All I have written and taught has been according to my conscience and sworn duty as a humble teacher of the Holy Scripture, for the praise of God, for the benefit and salvation of all Christendom, and for the good of the entire German nation” (WLS § 3775). He knew the message was much more than the man. He wanted his hearers to be assured of their salvation, which is alone in Christ, the Messiah. Through his sermons and hymn texts and writings, he presented the Gospel simply and directly. Today we honor and celebrate his faithful rediscovery of that Good News!

    Giving Thanks Before Thanksgiving
In the Gospel lesson for today, Jesus heals ten lepers, but only one of the men comes back to thank Jesus. Do we thank God every day for His goodness and blessing? Or do we take for granted all the gifts and blessings the Lord has granted to us. We have received much more than healing from a physical ailment. We have received in Jesus Christ cleansing from sin and a restored life that will never end. For that we owe Him our never-ending thanks and praise!

Joint Choral Service – The Power of the Word
Today the Word of God and our Christian faith are under attack from every direction. How are we to respond? Rather than retreating from the world in which we live, we are called to stand firm in the faith and to boldly share our Christian values and beliefs with others. We confidently share our risen Lord Jesus as the world’s only Savior and, through word and action, show forth His abiding love.

The Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) is the official women’s auxiliary of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. Since 1942, the LWML has affirmed each woman’s identity as a child of God and her relationship with Jesus Christ. Lutheran Women in Mission are encouraged and equipped to live out their lives in active mission ministries and to support missions around the world through their sacrificial gifts of Mite Box offerings and tireless service. As Christians, our faith propels us all into God’s mission and gives us confidence that God’s amazing grace will supply our needs and move His mission forward.

    The Haves and the Have-Nots
Jesus tells a story about a rich man and a poor man. The rich man had an earthly life filled with abundance, and he ignored the poor man who was in misery outside his gate. This story gives us pause and causes us to think about how we are treating our neighbors in need. It also reminds us never to trust in our earthly wealth and possessions, but rather to trust always in our Redeemer, Jesus Christ.

What God’s People Owe Their Pastor
There is a crisis in our churches. Pastors are leaving the ministry in record numbers. The seminaries are not producing enough new pastors to offset the number of pastors who retire or resign from the ministry every year. This means many congregations go without a pastor. Especially alarming is the number of pastors who resign their position because they just can’t take it anymore. How should a congregation support its pastor and his family? Today we look to the Word of God and consider what God’s people owe their pastor.

Congregations sometimes have unrealistic expectations of their pastor. This can lead to the pastor feeling overworked, unappreciated, depressed and wanting to leave the ministry. Many people don’t have a clue as to what a pastor is supposed to do and what he owes the people of God. Today we look to the Word of God and consider what God expects of the man serving His people as their pastor.
